

Peter Adam Thomas passed away on October 5, 2025 at the age of 86. Pete was born on March 22, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Charles and Gertrude (Glass) Thomas. Pete was predeceased by his wife, Ruth. Pete is survived by his son Charles (Marie) Thomas and Pamela Mowatt and his two sisters Catherine (Andrew) Prietz and Theresa (Clayton) Chauvin, along with many nieces and nephews. Pete will be forever cherished by his four grandchildren: Ethan Mowatt, Annaliese Thomas, Tyler Mowatt and Sarabeth Thomas.
Pete married his beloved wife Ruth (DeLong) in June, 1966. Pete and Ruth built their first home in Grosse Pointe Woods where they raised their children. Pete had a long and rewarding career with the Grosse Pointe Woods Public Safety Department. He began as a patrol officer and rose through the ranks to ultimately serve as Deputy Chief of Police. Pete went on to become the City Manager of Grosse Pointe Woods before he retired.
Pete was happiest when he was near the water. He enjoyed sailing on Lake St. Clair and Lake Huron. His favorite vacations were trips to the British Virgin Islands, sailing around the many islands with his family.
In retirement, Pete and Ruth traveled the world, golfed often, enjoyed their home in Port Sanilac and always made their children and grandchildren a priority. Despite frequent long drives, they could always be counted on to support their grandkids’ sports and school events.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 10am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 22412 Overlake St, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080. Visitation will begin at 9:00am with a mass at 10:00am.
