

Philip H. Leon, age 83 died peacefully at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit on Wednesday, September 22, 2010. Philip was born in Detroit on September 8, 1927 the son of Henry and Lucille Leon. Philip was a 1945 graduate of Denby High School where he was the editor of the school's newspaper, The Denby Log. Mr. Leon went on to graduate the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Philip was a nationally recognized master bridge player. He was fond of the fine arts, particularly the opera and symphony. He was an artist who enjoyed painting. He also was a gourmet cook and liked gardening. At one time he owned his own furniture store and was highly regarded as an interior designer. Philip was the uncle of the late Gary Lance Leon Corbin and is survived by Gary's wife Carol J. Corbin of Englewood, FL; grand-uncle of Kristine M. Britton, Gary L. Corbin, David A. Corbin, Carrie A. Habermehl, Kelly L. Justice and the late James P. Corbin; and cousins, Kenneth Corbin, Donald Dungan (Sue), Katherine Curry and David Dungan (Nancy). He was predeceased by his father, Henry Leon; his mother Lucille Marie Leon Smith, and his brother Jack Leon. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 pm Saturday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave. at Vernier Rd, Grosse Pointe Woods. Individuals wishing to offer tributes may do so between 3:00 and 4:00 pm. A private family interment has taken place at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Detroit. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be directed to either of Philip's favorite charities: The Michigan Opera Theatre,, Attn: Tribute Gifts, 1526 Broadway, Detroit, MI 48226 or The Detroit Symphony Orchestra, 3711 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48201.
