Regina Ann Benjamin Steiger was born on April 3rd, 1957 to David and Madelyn Benjamin in Detroit, Michigan. She had one older sister, Geralynn Ann Smith-Benjamin. Her high school education took place at Denby High School in Detroit, and she graduated in the year of 1975. During high school, she involved herself in everything, including ROTC, The Majorettes, theatre, and choir. Her aspiration and goal was always to attend the University of Michigan and study law. Achieving that dream, she began her studies but soon fell out of love with law and into love with news reporting after taking a broadcasting class. She switched her major and was forever happy for it. Regina graduated with her degree in 1979. After graduation, she began working as a news production assistant and writer at WXYZ Detroit. She soon worked her way up to anchoring at WILX in Lansing, MI; WDHO in Toledo, OH; and KXAS in Dallas, TX. But eventually, Regina made her way back home to Detroit. Being the accomplished person she was, Regina won an Emmy in 1988 for a Public Service Announcement she did on gun violence. She was honored with the title of Outstanding Woman of the Year in Communications. In 1987, at the Montreux-Detroit Jazz Festival held in Downtown Detroit, Regina's world got a bit brighter as she watched a band called The Sun Messengers perform, and noticed a handsome blonde playing the saxophone. His name was Rick Steiger. Her immediate thought was, "I have to know him." And as the go-getter woman she was, she indeed had her way. Rick and Regina dated for two years until God told Regina to propose. And on August 13th, 1989, they were married. Regina took a step back from her reporting career but never stopped working. She worked part time at the UCCA and was a producer for Detroit Festival of the Arts. But eventually, her career became her children. She was blessed with two daughters, Noelle Mary-Madelyn and Mikayla Joy. They became her full time job as God called her to be a homeschooling mother. And she wouldn't have had it any other way. She adored them and they will forever adore her. Through those years, God temporarily took away the desire for reporting and replaced it with a passion for teaching, artwork, singing and writing. Eventually, God restored her love for video and news and helped her to create her show titled 'The Hand of God'. Above all the many talents and gifts God had blessed Regina with, her greatest attribute was her abundant love and passion for the Lord. Her relationship with Jesus was birthed at a very young age and their connection was inspiring. She saw God in everything around her; the sky, the sun, flowers, her hummingbirds, in dreams and in the people God placed in her life. He not only built her as a worshipper, but a mighty prayer warrior. He filled her with wisdom that few had, making her a go-to person when anyone had questions about God. The impact she had on the lives of everyone she met will forever live on through her husband, her two daughters, her many relatives, her prayers partners and her sweet friends. She now lives in full joy and peace with her parents, older sister, two miscarried children, Samantha and Timothy and her Heavenly Father. Regina's family will receive friends on Thursday, January 19 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at A.H. Peters, 20705 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236. The funeral ceremony will take place also at the funeral home on Friday, January 20th at 12pm. Interment to follow at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East, 38425 Garfield Rd, Charter Twp of Clinton, MI 48038. While Regina was a lover of flowers, please consider donations to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in her name to support the research and services for those currently battling this horrible disease.
