Richard was a WWII veteran and beloved math teacher and administrator for 38 years in the Detroit Public Schools, first at Miller Junior High School and later he brought his great positivity and patience to students at Finney High School. He served as an assistant principal at Finney until he retired in 1995. He was a born teacher who loved working with students who needed extra assistance as he always said "anyone can teach the gifted ones."
When Richard did his daily treadmill routine, he demonstrated his passion for marching band music, particularly anything Sousa. He was known for his unassailable optimism. Whenever asked, no matter what the actual circumstance, he was always "peachy keen dandy fine." After retirement, he and Beverly, his beloved wife of 69 years, enjoyed traveling all over the world. They traveled to all of the continents except Antarctica, and visited every U.S. state and Canadian province during their many happy years together. An avid reader, he was a long-time volunteer at the St. Clair Shores Public Library.
Richard is survived by his wife, Beverly, his son Kevin (Sandra) and his grandchildren Meghan and Sean.
Memorial service to be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores at 10:00 am Saturday 11/30.
