Roxanne Schreck Affeldt

Roxanne (Schreck) Affeldt made her final transition to be with the Lord on the morning of August 22, 2026, after a brave battle. Roxanne was born on June 2, 1976, to her parents Gary and Mary Schreck and was fondly known as “Roxy” by her many friends and “Rocky” by her loving family. To those who loved her, it will be her infectious laugh, generosity and warm heart that will be so deeply missed.

Roxanne was a life-long learner which is evident through her commitment to education. She graduated in 1999 from Western Michigan University earning a B.A. in secondary education and served over 20 years as an educator in the L’Anse Creuse Public School district. Roxanne began her teaching career as a middle school English teacher, and although many would loath teaching this age, it was Roxanne’s passion. As a committed teacher, she showed her students they could achieve any goal if they worked hard and she saw the best in every one of her students. She loved the enthusiasm and awkwardness that came with that age of a child’s life and had a unique way of motivating all of them. Roxanne tapped into their spunk and humor and made it the foundation of her teaching style.

Roxanne went on to earn her master’s degrees from Saginaw Valley State University (2004) in Educational Leadership and Administration as well as a master’s degree in counseling from Central Michigan University (2008). She held many professional credentials including a Michigan Administrator Certificate, Michigan Professional Teaching Certificate 6-12 in English, Political Science and Guidance and Counseling. Roxanne also earned a Michigan Limited License Professional Counselor Certificate. After many dedicated years in the classroom Roxanne left the classroom and transitioned to the role of school counseling for high school students. It is there that she enjoyed helping young people follow their dreams. Her colleagues at the Diane Pellerin Center will miss her friendship, drive and collegiality.

On June 23, 2007, Roxanne married the love of her life Brian Affeldt. While not high school sweethearts in the traditional sense, they did graduate together from East Detroit High School and reconnected at their 10-year class reunion. Together they brought Elliana Marie Affeldt into the world in July 2017. From the moment she learned she was pregnant with Ellie; Roxanne embraced being a mother and cherished every moment she got to spend with Ellie.

In addition to Brian and Elliana, Roxanne leaves behind her loving mother Mary Schreck, in-laws Marie and Edward Zawol, Douglas and Patricia Affeldt, siblings Douglas, Pamela, Angela, and Edward, a large extended family and too many friends to name. Roxanne will also be dearly missed by her beloved kitties Zuma and Daisy. She was predeceased in death by her father Gary Schreck and special aunt Peggy Minton.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation and a Celebration of Life will take place on September 3 from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at A.H. Peters Funeral Home located at 20705 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, 48236.
