

Sally M. Kucway, age 86, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, surrounded by her loving family. Sally was born in Hamtramck, Michigan on November 30, 1925, the daughter of John and Mary Melnyk. She grew up in Hamtramck and graduated from Hamtramck High School in 1943. She married her husband Edward at Immaculate Conception Ukranian Catholic Church in Hamtramck in 1949. Edward and Sally moved to St. Clair Shores in 1954. Sally held several different positions in sales for ladies apparel during her career. She had worked at Days in Hamtramck, Demry's in Detroit and also the Parisian Bridal Salon on Eight Mile Road in Detroit. Later in life she was a latch key mom at St. Isaac Jogues School in St. Clair Shores. Sally loved her role in life as a mother and grandmother. She was close to all of her family and was always involved in their activities. She often gave an encouraging word or compliment. She was a kind woman with a big heart and was a very social person. During her lifetime she was involved with ceramics and enjoyed fishing. She was a member of St. Isaac Jogues Tekakwithan Ladies Group and the Christian Mother's Society. Sally was a former member of the William Melnyk Ukranian Catholic War Veterans in Warren, a club named after her brother. Mrs. Kucway is survived by her children, Virginia Stolarski (Ted), Glenn Kucway (Audrey), Douglas Kucway and Donna Fabian (Dan); her grandchildren, Todd, Natalie, Merissa, Joe, Nicole and Jenna; and her brother Bohdan Melnyk. She was predeceased by her husband Edward in 2008. Visitation for Mrs. Kucway will be held from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 19 at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 o'clock Thursday evening. Her body will lie instate at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, 21120 Madison in St. Clair Shores from 9:30 a.m. Friday until mass begins at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Fr. Paul Czarnota will officiate. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Detroit. The family has suggested memorial contributions be made to Myasthenia Gravis Association, 5523 E. Nine Mile Rd; Warren, MI 48091.
