Sharon Ann Tyrrell, 82, of Grosse Pointe Farms, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2024. Born in Detroit to Margaret and Winfrey Qualls, she grew up in both Grosse Pointe Woods and Shores with her younger brother, Tom. Sharon attended Parcells Middle School and Grosse Pointe High School, graduating in 1960.
She married her childhood sweetheart, Robert, in 1961 and started their family in St. Clair Shores that same year. Together they spent over 30 years in Grosse Pointe City before finally settling in the Farms. A beloved wife, mother and grandmother, she dedicated her life to creating a nurturing and loving home for her family. Deeply rooted in her faith, she served many years as a Sunday School teacher at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church, where she and Robert have been members for over 50 years.
Sharon was an avid antiquer. She loved to scour the markets for treasures and was known for her impressive antique teddy bear collection. Her love of dogs was unparalleled. Likely most dog-owning residents of the Pointes have met Sharon on the sidewalk over the years. She could never pass a dog without a joyful hello and a belly rub.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Robert; her four children, Margaret (Jeffrey), Robert, Todd, and Laurie (Stephan); her grandson Michael (Katie); her brother, Tom (Deborah), and nephew Mark (Robyn). She is predeceased by her parents and her brother Gary. Sharon’s legacy of love, compassion, and selflessness will be remembered by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church Thursday, September 5th, at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in Sharon’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) or Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society (www.gpaas.org).
