Shirley M. Popovich

Shirley M. Popovich, age 92, died peacefully at her home on November 19, 2015. Shirley was born in Detroit on October 23, 1923, the daughter of Guy and Marcella King. She graduated St. Anthony High School in 1940. Shirley married John Popovich in 1948 at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Detroit. Shirley worked in accounting at McCullagh Leasing for over 30 years. She was a former parishioner at St. Peter Catholic Church in Harper Woods for over 60 years, until the church closed. She was a devout Catholic. Shirley was very proud of her family and doted on them. She was an organized lady who enjoyed reading the gossip tabloids. Mrs. Popovich is survived by her four children, Patricia Dieball (Fred), Joyce Loman, Thomas (Kathy) and Robert (Lisa); 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She was predeceased by her husband John in 1992. A memorial mass will be held at 10 am Saturday, November 28 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack, St. Clair Shores. The family will receive friends at church after 9:30 am. The family has suggested memorials be made to St. Joan of Arc Church, 22412 Overlake, St. Clair Shores 48080.
