Terrance Francis Flynn

FLYNN, Terrance Francis September 2, 2009 Age 66 Son of the late Lester and Rose Flynn. Dear brother of Catherine Flynn, Reverend Thomas Patrick Flynn, Maureen Therese Flynn Henze (Lawrence), Lester Edward Flynn (Penny), and the late Eileen Blessing, RoseMarie Flynn and Patrick John Flynn. Loving uncle of Theresa, William, Kathleen, Thomas Ann Marie, Sheila and Michanne. Also fifteen grand nieces and nephews. Dear friend of Linda Surma. Visitation Monday 2-8 pm with a Scripture Service 7:30 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue, at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. In state Tuesday 11:30 am until time of funeral Mass 12 Noon at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack, St. Clair Shores, 48080. Private interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the church appreciated. Terry was born the seventh of eight children to Lester and Rose Anna Flynn on August 9, 1943. He was a graduate of St. Catherine Grade School and De La Salle High School, class of 1961. In his youth he was active in sports, current events, and politics. After graduating from University of Detroit, he proudly served in the U.S. Army in Viet Nam. Upon his discharge he obtained a teaching degree from Wayne State University, majoring in U.S. History. He taught in Detroit area schools including Denby High School. Always interested in furthering his education, he attended Detroit College of Law, graduating in 1975 and passing the Bar in 1976. His law practice was located in East Detroit, now Eastpointe. Much of his work was that of a public defender. He retired in July of 2004 due to severe health problems that stemmed from his exposure to Agent Orange during his service in Viet Nam. As a result Terry received a 100 percent disability compensation. Terry always conducted himself as a responsible son, brother, uncle and friend, financially and morally responsible to those with whom he was raised and those who he encountered. A truly fine human being.
