Theodore Chickola passed away peacefully on February 5th, 2017. He is survived by his children Larry (Jayne), Jeff, and Julie, granddaughter Jennifer, and brother Bob (Mary). Ted was predeceased by his loving wife Carol in 2009. Ted was born in Detroit, and was raised by his Uncle Alex in the farmland of Armada, Michigan during the Great Depression. He graduated high school, worked at the Packard Motor Co, and enlisted in 1942. He was commissioned as a Naval Officer in 1944, and flew B-24 Liberators in the Pacific Theater. Ted was awarded the APTO medal with 2 stars, and also the Air Medal. After the war, Ted was determined to forge a successful career. He attended Lawrence Tech for several years of night school, graduating with a BS in Civil Engineering. He worked for the City of Detroit as a project engineer, building roads and bridges around the entire metro area. Some of his favorite projects were the Joe Louis Arena and Hart Plaza, but his very favorite was the rebuilding of the Belle Isle Bridge. Ted married Carol in 1962, and the children came soon after. Larry and Jeff eventually followed in their father's engineering footsteps, with Julie going her own artistically different direction. Ted was a tinkerer and inventor. His fixes and "repairs" at times would have mystified Rube Goldberg himself, but they always worked in the end. He built 2 homes with his own hands outside of the permanent residence in Detroit. He and Carol eventually moved into the house in Cadillac, and they lived there until her passing. He cared deeply about providing for his family, and made sure they were always provided for and given the opportunities he did not have as a child. We miss him greatly, and our love and respect for him grows with every passing day. Visitation for Mr. Chickola will take place Wednesday 2-8 pm at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods. The funeral service will take place Thursday 12 noon. Memorial contributions may be made to Angela Hospice or Ducks Unlimited.
