Verlane worked as a sales clerk for Sam’s Department Store (which is now closed) for many years. A fervent woman of faith, she was a devoted member of Peace Lutheran Church for many years, where she was a Sunday school teacher as well as a celebrated member of the church-quilting group (she will be remembered for her quality quilts).
She was very handy around the house; and was very hands on when it came to repairing her home.
Her granddaughter, Krista Semrau (Jerry); her sister in law, Diane Menzel, and many nieces and nephews survive her.
Aside from her loving parents, Verlane was preceded in death by her loving husband, Elmer Ertman (who passed in 1969); her son, Gary Ertman (who passed in 2004) as well as her seven brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 11, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at A.H. Peters Funeral Home of Grosse Pointe Woods (20705 Mack Avenue, at Vernier Rd.). Funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel at A.H. Peters Funeral Home. Pastor Arnold Brammeir will be conducting funeral services.
She will be laid to rest at Glenn Eden Cemetery next to her husband Elmer.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to Peace Lutheran Church.
