A life remembered with love, gratitude, and grace
Virginia Ditty, a beloved mother, family member, and friend, passed away on August 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and joy. To know Virginia was to know warmth, humor, and a fun-loving spirit that brightened the lives of those around her. She made people feel welcome and valued, offering care through thoughtful words, gentle encouragement, and a steady presence.
Virginia’s greatest joy was her family. As a mother, she offered guidance, comfort, encouragement, and unconditional love, while living the values she hoped to pass on: patience, compassion, resilience, and devotion. She placed the needs of others before her own and taught by example that love is shown most clearly in everyday acts of kindness.
She loved all things Scotland, carrying that affection with pride and delight, and found peace working in her garden. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing golf whenever she could, and had a tender heart for animals, especially dogs.
Virginia is survived by her loving family, including her son James, her son Chris and his wife Ericka, her brother Jim and his family, and her sister Laureen and her family. She was preceded in death by her husband Jeffrey A. Ditty and her youngest son, Sean Ditty.
Friends can visit with Virg’s family at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home (20705 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236) on Friday, August 28, from 2 – 8pm.
Funeral services will occur at First English Evangelical Lutheran Church (800 Vernier Rd, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236) on Saturday, August 29, at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the St. Andrew’s Society of Detroit, First English Evangelical Lutheran Church, Semper K9 Assistance Dogs, or that loved ones honor Virginia by sharing kindness with someone in need.
