W. Howard Nurse

W. Howard Nurse, D.V.M, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2009 in St Clair Shores. The former forty year resident of Grosse Pointe was born on December 21, 1921 in Palmerston, Ontario, Canada to Dr. Harold and Sybilla Nurse. Mr. Nurse earned a degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Toronto-Guelph in 1950. Howard immigrated to the United States in 1953. Dr. Nurse owned Moore Veterinary Hospital in St. Clair Shores for thirty-five years befor his son, Dr. Richard Nurse, took over the practice. Howard was a veteran of WWII, having attained the rank of Flying Officer of the Royal Canadian Air Force. He enjoyed traveling, bridge, and was an avid bowler for over thirty years. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association, Michigan State Veterinary Association and the Senior Men's Club of Grosse Pointe. He is survived by his wife Patricia A. Nurse; daughters Leslie (Richard S.) Ritter and Susan (Bill) Wilson; and son Richard (Nancy) Nurse. He was proud of his grandchildren Matthew, Michelle, and Meghan. He leaves behind his sister Marilyn Bain and brother Donald, both of Kitchner, Ontario. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, September 30th at 11:00 am at A.H. Peters Funeral Home 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. Visitation will begin on Wednesday at 9:00 am. Interment at White Chapel Cemetery.
