Walter William Schlichting

Walter William Schlichting passed away May 29th, 2022. Dearest husband to Karen (Gyurscik). Father of Megan Lee (J.J. Vicari) & William James Schlichting. Grandfather to Kaitlyn (Mike Fenner), Kelsey Brasher (Austen Duyser), Tyler Schlichting. Dearest brother of Gail (Ken Kirkpatrick, uncle to Thomas & Richard Kirkpatrick. Dear longtime friend of Mel Muchitsch.

Walter (Walt) was born April 28, 1939 to Walter (Bud) & Virginia Schlichting. He had two children with Carole Burch. Married Karen (babydoll) Gyurscik in 1975. Together they shared many happy memories; trips, their passion for sports especially red wing hockey. He enjoyed the casino and spending time with family and friends.

Walt attended Lutheran High, went to Lawrence Tech for a mechanical engineering degree, he worked 33 years for the City of Detroit. His last assignment was to work on the people mover project which he was so proud of.

He sang in the church choir. His favorite golf outing was with the Marchiori group. He looked forward to it every year. What a wonderful group of guys.

He was a hard ball pitcher in high school and even tried out for the Tigers. Walt played fast pitch softball for many years. He played basketball at Bethany Lutheran Church for 40 years and he was known as the commissioner of the High Fivers.

When he retired he umpired baseball and refereed basketball. He knew both games very well.

He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He will be missed by many.

Visitation Thursday from 1:00 pm until 9:00 PM at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave, at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. Walt will lie instate on Friday from 9:30 am until the time his funeral at 10:00 am at First English Lutheran Church, 800 Vernier Rd, Grosse Pointe Woods.

In lieu of flowers a memorial to First English Evangelical Church 800 Vernier, Grosse Pointe Woods would be appreciated.
