William Henry Hansen

William Hansen passed away peacefully at home on November 24, 2009. He was born on May 7, 1923 in Barnsboro, Pennsylvania; son of Walter and Iantha (Nee Kirtley). Mr. Hansen served his country proudly during WWII in the United States Army. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his heroic actions in the European Theater. After the war, William met Eunice Nolte in 1949 while working at the A&P Warehouse office on Hecla St. in Detroit. They were married the following year at Mt. Zion Church in Detroit. William and Eunice started their family in Allen Park for two years before moving to Harvard St. on Detroit's East Side. They remained there until 1963 when they moved to Devonshire Rd., in Grosse Pointe Park. Mr. Hansen was a hard worker. He owned numerous companies throughout the years including Hansen Advertising. He also consulted for various other companies. In his spare time, Mr Hansen enjoyed gardening. Although the tomatos and peppers always seemed to thrive, William was not afraid to try to grow more challenging vegetables (sometimes unsuccesfully). In 1967 the Hansen's purchased a motor home. They spent the next two decades touring the country for leisure. William is survived by his wife of 59 years; Eunice. He was proud of his children Paul (Debbie), Nancy Yarborough, and Lynda (Mark) Wells. He adored his six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He leaves behind his sister Beatrice. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother Paul, and sister Margaret Chappell. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday November 28th at 10:00 AM at A.H. Peters Funeral Home 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. The reverend Joyce Treppa will officiate. Military honors will conclude the ceremony. Visitation will be on Friday from 2:00 until 9:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Hospice. Mr. Hansen will be interred at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.
