

William Koch passed away on May 24, 2011 at St. John Hospital in Detroit. He was born in Detroit on August 14, 1930; son of William Hermann and Theresa Victoria (nee Hausner) Koch. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in Detroit, and was a member of the St. Joe's/DeLaSalle Alumni Club. Bill received a certificate in buisness management from the University of Detroit Buisness School. On August 4th, 1971 Bill married his beloved J. Eva Wayne in Detroit. Their marriage was later blessed at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores. Bill was a resident of the Grosse Pointes for over fifty years. He worked as a salesman and general manager in the auto industry from 1950 - 1978 for Raynal Brothers Dodge Plymouth, Jim Causley Pontiac, Star Lincoln Mercury, Northland Chrysler Plyomuth, and Arnold Lincoln Mercury. He was known to many as "Bill Cook" in the auto industry. He was also the owner of Fundraising Promotions Inc. from 1978 until his retirement in 1998. Mr. Koch was active in the community as a member of the Kiwanis, Men of Sacred Heart, and the Gleaners. He organized and helped with the St. John Pediatric Oncology Center's "Sunshine Kids". He would chaperone patients to various events such as Tiger's games, the Detroit Fireworks, and trips to Boblo Island. He was very active in fully supporting fundraising programs for the Grosse Pointe school system. His support of the Lions Club and Goodfellas would often be evident as he would raise funds at various corners of Grosse Pointe intersections. Bill was devout to the Detroit Tigers and Lions. He had befriended some Tigers during the 1980's through various charitable activities. Bill had many loves in his life. In his younger years he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was an excellent marksman, winning awards in skeet and target shooting and would shoot with many Grosse Pointe police officers. He loved being on his boat. He was an avid golfer. He was a serious cigar and pipe aficionado and even won pipe smoking contests. Mr. Koch enjoyed a great meal but, even more, a great dessert, which he often reffered to as the most important part of the meal. His biggest love in life was his family. He leaves behind his loving wife J. Eva Koch. He was proud of his daughters Mary Ann Jones, and Theresa "Terri" Lynn (Richard). He adored his six week old grandson William Lynn. He is survived by his brothers Richard (Anne) and Ken (Joan); nieces Karen Hollick, Jennifer Wagner, and Lisa Weinstein; and nephew David Koch. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2:00-9:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. A Scripture Service will be held at 7:00 PM. Mr. Koch will lie in state on Friday from 9:30 am until the time of the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 am at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church, 157 Lakeshore Dr., Grosse Pointe Farms. Father John Wynnycky will officiate. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Twp.
