

Leith, William (Bill) R. Ph.D. Age 82. Jan. 16, 2010. Beloved husband of the late Wanda Luella. Proud father of Randy (Donna), Kris, Tamara (Jim) Treanore and David. Loving grandfather of Vincent, Erin, Bosch, Kelsey, Escher and Brendan. Bill was a professor-artist-musician-writer. Visitation Wed. and Thurs. 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home 32000 Schoenherr at Masonic (13 Mile Road), Warren. Funeral Service Friday 1:00 pm at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church, 16 Lakeshore Drive, Grosse Pointe Farms. In memory of Bill, donations can be made to WSU-Dept. of Communication Sciences and Disorders. Bill was born in Gary, Indiana son of Alexander Leith, a well digger, and Lila (Greene) Leith, a lady who ran a boarding house. He graduated from Western Michigan University and then went on to Purdue and received his doctorate in psychology and in speech pathologies. Bill started his family in Wichita, Kansas then moved to Colorado to start the speech department at Colorado State University. He then moved to the Cleveland, Ohio area to the casewestern-speech and stuttering focus for several years-renovated a large, 3 storied old house-that was haunted according to all the teenagers. After 5 years moved to Detroit, Michigan and accepted a position as chair in the speech department at Wayne State University and especially focused on stuttering. He published multiple books on the treatment of stuttering. Bill maintained a strong private practice with an international clientele, taught internationally. Bill received an honorary degree from Oolu, Sweden. Upon retirement, traveled the world with Wanda. He will be missed by all.
