William Louis Marchiori

William (Bill) Louis Marchiori, age 92, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, he leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.

Bill, born in Solvay, New York, in 1933 to Angelo and Elvira Marchiori, spent most of his life in the Detroit area after his family relocated when his father joined the staff of the newly opened Book Cadillac Hotel. Raised on Detroit's east side, Bill attended St. Anthony Elementary School and Wilbur Wright High School before studying Business Administration at the University of Detroit. His education was interrupted when he answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army. From 1954 to 1956, Bill served honorably in Germany and, upon his discharge, joined the family business, the Angelo Marchiori Catering Company, which became Marchiori & Son. Building on the success of the family business, Bill later owned and operated Revere Hall on Jefferson Avenue before becoming the in-house caterer at the Assumption Cultural Center, where his warmth, professionalism, and passion for bringing people together left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

On February 15, 1958, Bill married the love of his life, Edith (Edie) Fanelli, at St. Luke Catholic Church in Detroit. Together they built a loving family that grew to include six children, seventeen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren, with future generations continuing their legacy. Family was the cornerstone of Bill's life and nothing brought him greater joy than gathering his family around the table, sharing stories, laughter, and meals prepared with love.

A gifted cook and professional caterer, Bill expressed his love through food. Whether serving clients throughout his career or preparing cherished family recipes at home, he found great joy in bringing people together around the table. His kitchen was a place of comfort, laughter, and connection. Among the dishes he loved to share were his famous Acini de Pepe chicken soup, a favorite of his grandchildren, and his hearty Mostaccioli Bolognese. Even in later years, Bill remained actively involved in the family catering business. He could often be found dicing vegetables, making gnocchi, filling cannolis or tackling his favorite task, peeling potatoes. He took special pride in helping prepare the homemade soups that delighted so many customers, often working side by side with his grandsons, passing along both recipes and traditions.

Beyond his love of cooking, Bill enjoyed traveling and embraced every opportunity to explore new places and create lasting memories with family and friends. He also found pleasure in gardening, watching classic movies, reading, and playing card games, especially spirited rounds of euchre with his children and fun-filled UNO matches with his grandchildren. Always eager to stay connected, Bill kept in touch through email, usually typed in ALL CAPS, and on Facebook, with his loyal iPad.

Bill was faith-filled and deeply committed to service, fraternity, and charitable work. Inspired by the mission of the Order of Alhambra and its dedication to children with special needs, he became a member in 1966 and devoted himself wholeheartedly to the organization for over 60 years. His leadership and commitment led to his election as Grand Commander in 1972, and he later served in numerous regional and caravan leadership roles, helping advance the Alhambra's mission. He had a passion for organizing annual fund raisers which included: Feather Bingo Parties and Reverse Raffles to advocate for and support those in need. His favorite event was the Alhambra Charity Golf Outing which he chaired for 35 years. Throughout his life, Bill was also active in many civic and cultural organizations, including the St. Joan of Arc Knights of Columbus, Veneti Nel Mondo (Venetians of the World), Red & White Fez Club and the Italian Chamber of Commerce.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Edie, whom he shared 60 happy years of marriage until her passing eight years ago. Though he deeply missed her every day, he carried her memory in his heart and often spoke of the life and love they built together.

He is survived by his 6 children: Angela Lietaert (Charles), Linda Lietaert, Carol Slivka (David), William R. Marchiori (Kimberly), Anthony Marchiori (Kathleen), and Matthew Marchiori (Diana); 17 grandchildren: Brian Lietaert (Lindsey), Chris Lietaert (Lauren), Chas Lietaert (Aesha), Lisa O'Sullivan (Chris), Billy Marchiori (Jenn), Jessica Luenner (Doug), Brandon Marchiori, Johnathan Marchiori, Michael Marchiori, Madelyn Marchiori, Joseph Slivka, Elizabeth Slivka, Nicholas Marchiori, John Slivka, Matthew Angelo Marchiori, Kai Marchiori and Lia Marchiori; 10 great-grandchildren: Valentina, Leonardo, Blake, Stella, Oliver, Nico, Everett, Laylah, Evelyn, and Emma, and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Visitation will be held at A H Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236, US, on August 24, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Visitation will also be held at St Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack Ave. St. Clair Shores, on August 25, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00am.

A Committal Service will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 17100 Van Dyke Ave, Detroit, MI 48234, US, on August 25, 2026, from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm.
