Brian T. Coughlin

Brian Thomas Coughlin, 76, of Grove City, Ohio passed away peacefully on May 28th 2023. Brian was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 5th 1947 to William and Carolina Coughlin and grew up in Livonia, Michigan. He graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Communications in 1970. He met his wife Roxanne in Flint, Michigan in 1977. They married in 1979. Brian worked in government and public affairs for most of his career, including at BP and A.K. Steel.

Brian loved Indy car racing, so it seems fitting that he passed away on the day of the Indianapolis 500. He was devoted to Detroit Lions football (despite the heartbreak it caused him) and loved reading spy novels, watching World War II documentaries, and showing off his impeccable memory for trivia during family games of Trivial Pursuit. Brian also liked to cook and whipped up a mean Cajun seafood and sausage gumbo. In recent years, he enjoyed serving on his neighborhood homeowner’s association board.

Brian is survived and will be missed by his loving wife, his daughter Lindsay and her husband Ron Campbell, his step-daughter Jennifer Phegley and her husband Byron Huhmann as well as his grandchildren Emily and Thomas Siehl and his step-grandchildren Ronnie, Lilly, Gavin, and Cooper Campbell. He will be fondly remembered by sister Kathy and husband Dan Sapp, sister Maureen Coughlin, brother Bill and wife Lynne Coughlin, and brother Bob and wife Kelly Coughlin. He is also survived by sister-in-law Rebecca and husband Keith Sullivan, sister-in law Rhonda Morgan and partner Stanley Davis, sister-in-law Rachel and husband Joe Coelho, and sister-in-law Ramona and husband Tim Robertson.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother as well as his father-in-law Carroll Stephens and mother-in-law Jean Wheeler and her second husband Hank Wheeler as well as his brother-in-law Richard Stephens.
