Cecilia "Ceil" (née Badurina) Shaffer

Cecilia “Ceil” (née Badurina) Shaffer, age 91, of Grove City, Ohio passed away peacefully on Monday, January 15, 2024 at Kobacker House. A proud first generation American, she was the daughter of Croatian immigrants who loved to share her heritage with her family and all who knew her. She was a lifelong Catholic and 70-year member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, and a 1950 graduate of South High School in Columbus. After becoming a young widow at the age of 50, she went on to build a successful career at Lazarus and Huntington National Bank. She dealt with many adversities in her life with grace, tenacity and a fierce determination to keep going for the sake of her family who was always her first priority. Her love of family, faith, strength, and resilience will always be remembered by her children and those who were fortunate enough to know her.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Josephine Badurina, her husband of 30 years, Eugene Shaffer, sons Steve and Andy Shaffer, siblings Mary Gallo (Paul), William Badurina (Gertrude), and Emil Badurina.

She is survived by children Jeanne Shaffer Hilt, Scott Shaffer (Lynn), Lori Shaffer Mavrakis (Bill) daughters-in-law Carol Shaffer and Dru Shaffer, grandchildren Jack Hilt (Danielle), Bret Hilt (Katie), Joseph Shaffer (Ashley Juhlin), Sarah and Steve Shaffer, great grandchildren Jack Jr. and Caroline Hilt, sister-in-law Maryann Badurina as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 19th from 9:30am – 10:30am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 3730 Broadway, Grove City, OH immediately preceding her Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. A graveside service will follow at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery. The family would like to thank the amazing team at OhioHealth Hospice for their compassionate care, especially Tammy Davenport who provided extraordinary compassion and support to Cecilia and the family during her journey.
