

Clyde V. Tipton, 88, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2025. He was raised in Harlan, Ky with 10 brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Fanny (Rutherford) Tipton; his brothers: Pete, GW, Donald, Eugene, Clarence, Glen, Rolley, and sisters Nell Marsie, Marie Holbrook, and Edith Tipton.
Clyde is survived by his only son Vaughn CroweTipton, a professor at Furman University in Greenville, SC. Clyde was very proud of his son and the degree of education (doctorate) that Vaughn obtained. Vaughn is married to Beverly CroweTipton, and their children are Jared (Marybeth) and Abby Tipton. Jared and Mary Beth have a son Noah, who is Clyde's only great grandchild.,
His only surviving sibling is his "warrior" sister Betty Tipton Day of Corbin Kentucky. She was always ready to make or take a phone call to help out and arranged visits (weather and health permitting) to travel from Corbin, KY to be with Clyde. Clyde is also survived by Betty's children Michelle, Dusty, and Pam; and by nieces Debbie Goldsberry, Margie Thornton, and Gail Tipton Castle.
Clyde was a Christian man at heart who, deplored those who took the Lord's name in vain. He often quoted his favorite Bible verse: John 3-16. "For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son that whosoever should believe in Him should not perish but have ever lasting life" emphasizing his deep belief of God's love for the world and the path to salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.
Clyde is survived by a loving wife, Judy Uphouse Tipton, 14 years married, but together for 30. Clyde said one of his proudest moments was the day he married Judy. He continued to express his love for and pride in her many times during their time together. He also had supportive stepchildren: Sam Uphouse, Robert (Lynn) Uphouse, Wendy (Howard) Bruss, and Kevin Uphouse; step-grand-children: Mark Uphouse, Jamie Uphouse, Kaitlyn Shea, Lauren Strausbaugh, Zac Uphouse, Howie Bruss, Ethan Bruss, Aiden Bruss, Nicholas Uphouse, and Canyon Uphouse, all of Columbus, Ohio.
A proud member of the American Legion Don Gentile Post 532 and the NAUS club, Clyde’s commitment to his community and country was unwavering. Clyde retired from Celanese Plastics in Hilliard, Ohio after 30 years and from COTA after 7 years of dedicated service. He was a great bus driver and really missed this job when he was forced out after having a stroke. He had a deep love for music and was known for his singing and playing the guitar. He was proud to bring karaoke to the West Side of Columbus, where he formed lasting friendships that he considered family. His quick wit, sense of humor, and love for fun made him a joy to be around. He was a devoted husband, a proud father with many friends.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Clyde’s life, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him with a Visitation on Sunday, December 14, 2025 from 2-5 pm at SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY 4242 Hoover Rd. Grove City where Clyde’s funeral service will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025 at 1 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, whose care and compassion were invaluable during his final days. The hospice recruited two Hospice volunteers Amanda McNamee and James Xiao, whose company meant so much to Clyde during his final days.
