Dave was born on October 24, 1962 to James Furey and Marie LaChance Furey in Buffalo, New York.
Dave never met a stranger. He believed and lived by "paying it forward" and helping anyone in need.
He had one rule for visitors to his home. In the first five minutes you're a guest and the rest of your stay, you're family.
Dave loved to entertain, especially when it included sitting around his fire pit with friends and neighbors.
He enjoyed coaching his daughters, Erika and Devon, in soccer, basketball, bowling and softball.
When he wasn't coaching he could be heard cheering for his girls over the crowd.
That enthusiasm continued during band and orchestra events and throughout his girl’s careers and moves.
Any project of theirs, big or small, he was part of.
Dave loved spending time outdoors, especially camping with his childhood friends in Long Point, Ontario.
Fishing was another tradition he shared with his girls.
He was happiest with a fishing pole in his hands and a daughter by his side.
Dave loved to garden, inside and outside.
Watching for deer and other wildlife from his patio brought him great joy...just like his father before him.
He was a life long Buffalo Bills fan and loved watching the Duke men's basketball team with his family and friends.
Dave was quite the sketch artist, a talent he inherited from his mother. Many Sketches and note pads of drawings were found by his recliner. On those tough days when his legs would not cooperate, he would sketch for hours.
He married Kelly Lyons in December 2012 and added two incredible stepsons, Chris and Colin to the family. Together they adopted two precious and faithful pups, Finnegan and Faith.
Dave and Kelly had 12 wonderful years together and Dave always referred to Kelly as the love of his life.
In recent years, Dave’s declining health brought him many challenges.
He tried very hard not to let any of them slow him down.
Even through the really tough times, he never lost that sparkle in his blue eyes.
Ultimately, he passed from a broken heart after losing his beautiful wife just one month before.
If Dave could have left some parting words we are sure they would be this, Love your Family.
David is preceded in death by the love of his life, Kelly Lyons-Furey; parents James and Marie Furey; and two brothers Michael and Jimmy Furey.
He leaves behind his beloved daughters, Erika Furey and Devon Furey (Richard Neil); stepsons, Christopher Lyons (Dr. Elizabeth Kudlaty) and Colin Lyons; sister, Michele (Gordon) Beatty; nephews, cousins and many friends.
Family will receive friends on Sunday August 25, 2024 from 12 to 2 pm at Schoedinger Norris 4242 Hoover Rd. Grove City, with a memorial service at 2 pm.
