

Deloris Nellie Nelson, 98, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2022. She was born November 13, 1923 in Nelsonville, Ohio to the late Earl Donald and Edna Elizabeth (Essex) Mender. She was a 1941 graduate of Nelsonville York High School. Deloris retired with 16 years of service to the U.S. Postal Service. She was an avid reader, enjoyed listening to gospel music and discussing current events. She was an exceptional caretaker and took wonderful care of her late husband Paul during his battle with Dementia.
She loved the outdoors, spending time in nature and caring for the neighborhood stray cats. You could not leave her home without a gift; a special treasure, a news article that she had saved for you or a sweet treat. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling with her family, visiting with her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Paul Nelson; siblings, Wilbur Mender, Carlyle Mender, Donald Mender, Lillian Kieffer, Margurite Mender, and Shirley Dolman; and grandson, Brendon Deasey. Deloris is survived by her children, Paul (Sheree) Nelson, Patrick Nelson, Mary Deasey, Mark (Molly) Nelson, and Christopher Nelson; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; close niece, Diane (Jim) Davis; good friend, Dorothy Abram; and many other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2022 at Our Mother of Sorrows Chapel at St. Joseph Cemetery. Fr. Joe Yokum, Celebrant. Entombment will follow.
