She loved the color green, had a special place in her heart for lemon meringue pie and loved THE Ohio State Buckeyes. She was a phenomenal cook and found great joy in caring for the people around her, always willing to help those who were less fortunate. Her cooking became part of the family’s treasured memories. Sundays often meant her famous fried chicken, a family favorite, along with her delicious cinnamon rolls. Her recipe has lovingly been passed down through the generations. Oven chow mein was another meal she enjoyed making and sharing with her family.
She was a hands-on Mom and Grandma who cherished her family deeply, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She made every holiday a special occasion, filling the home with family, laughter, love, and generous spreads of food. Her greatest joy was simply being together with the people she loved.
Her caring spirit was evident throughout her entire life. In high school, she was a cheerleader, and throughout the years she continued to encourage and uplift others. She was known for her warm hugs, words of encouragement, and the smile that welcomed everyone she met. If someone needed help or assistance, she was always there. She loved people with her whole heart and made those around her feel cared for and valued.
Her faith was at the center of her life. She loved her extended church family dearly and faithfully served both her church and her community. As a pastor’s wife, she was deeply involved in the ministry and embraced every opportunity to serve. In the early years of their ministry, she and her husband, John, spent time together at the Nazarene church camps attending different functions. In their early years they also served as lifeguards for children’s camp. She was proud to serve as a Sunday school teacher, minister to those who were shut in, lead women’s activities, and direct the children’s choir.
Music was another special part of her life. She sang alto in the choir, and one of her favorite hymns was When We All Get to Heaven. Her love for music, her church, and her faith touched many lives.
Above all, her life was a reflection of the love of Jesus. She served others generously, encouraged those who were hurting, welcomed everyone with a smile, and gave of herself without hesitation. Her legacy lives on in the family she loved so dearly, the faith she shared so freely, the recipes and traditions she passed down, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness, compassion, and love.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years Rev. John Remmenga; son James Lee Remmenga; daughter Jana K. Wilson; grandson Justin Thomas Wilson; siblings Donald “Buck” Riffle, Eugene “Denver” Riffle, Dorothy “Dot” Hartman, and Darrell “Bill” Riffle.
