Edgar Charles Merritt

Edgar Charles Merritt II, our love, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, and friend passed away on September 18, 2026, at the age of 70. He was born April 10, 1956 in Columbus, Ohio.

Ed’s treasure was his family. He was an avid hot rodder, who enjoyed classic cars, and could frequently be seen at an area car show with his current project. Ed also enjoyed woodworking, making many pieces for his grandchildren, a rocking motorcycle, rocking horse, train, and cribs.

Ed was a life-long resident of Grove City, a 1974 graduate of Grove City High School, and a proud member of the only truly undefeated Grove City High School 1972 football team. He retired from Tractor Service and Supply in 2024 after 48 years of employment.

Ed is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 52 years, Carol Francis, his son, Edgar Charles III (Tiffany), his daughter, Angela Beth (Michael), and his son Luke Bennett (Jennifer), grandchildren, Eva Grace, Edgar Charles IV, Lila Rose, Erno Oliver, William Bennett, and Charlotte Mae, brother, Jim Merritt, sisters, Nanette Mastrogianakis (Art), Denise Gueth, and Patrice Flanagan, brother-in-law, Charles Goodin (Jane), sister-in-laws, Ginger Tinkler (Ken), Bobbie Jo Price (Jim), Betty Jo Reed, and Patricia Grove. Ed will be missed by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Ed’s life was enriched by many good friends, thank you if you were one of them. He was easy to love.

Edgar was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Charles Merritt, mother, Charlotte Mae Merritt, father-in-law, Charles Goodin, mother-in-law, Margaret Goodin, sisters, Pamela Ann Merritt and Suzanne Strieb, and brother-in-laws, Don Cahall, Jim Flanagan, Fred Grove, Tim Reed, and John Gueth.

A memorial celebration of Ed’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2026 at Schoedinger Grove City, 4242 Hoover Rd., Grove City.
