Flora Kariamana Muturia

It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Flora Kariamana Muturia on April 19th peacefully in her sleep at the age of 63. She was the beloved mother of Patrick Njeru, Elizabeth Njeru and Joseph Njeru. She was mother in love to Alice Rauli, Patrick Brown and Ellen Short and grandmother to Saadia Kaati, Alexander Njeru and Charlye Brown.

She grew up in Meru, Kenya, the eldest child of Joseph Muturia and Anne Thirindi. She is survived by her siblings Glory, Pamela, Lucy, Helen, Lillian, Brian, David, Linda, Aida, Martin, Diana and ex-husband Victor Kaati. She reunited in death with her mother and brother Rob Kimathi.

She moved to Columbus, Ohio in 2000 to work and create a life here and was able to bring her children to Ohio in 2011 along with their father Victor. We are so thankful for tight knit family mom created. She is, and always will be, the heart of this family.

An overwhelming amount of people met our mom as a stranger – as a fellow parishioner, a client, at the library, at work - and have become members of our family changing her life and our lives along the way. The family is forever grateful for the love and friendship of Kenny and Lynn Brown, Sara Smucker, the Mossburg Family, and Michael and Leah Merill.

One of mom’s main purposes in life was her commitment to and devotion to us. She loved us very fiercely and did everything in her power to make sure we were successful in life. She has been a constant guide and light in our lives, and though we’re sad that she’s not here to watch and celebrate in the fruits of her labor, she is looking down on us with a big smile and watchful eye.

Mom had recently finished building her home in Meru, Kenya and was excited to move home this summer to live on her farm and spend time with her father and siblings. To honor her lifelong wish of being put to rest on her own land, her children will be taking her home to Kenya.
