

A graduate of Monroe Township High School, Five Points, Ohio, George attended Wilmington College and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from the John Deere Company in Columbus, Ohio, in 1986. He was a past master of Heber Lodge #501 F&AM in Williamsport, Ohio, and recently received a 65-year pin from this lodge. He was also a past patron of the Heber Eastern Star in Ohio and a member of Tyrian Council #60, Royal Arch Mason #20 in Circleville, Ohio, and Scottish Rite in Columbus, Ohio. George was a past member of Oakhurst Country Club in Grove City, Ohio, and Lakewood Country Club in Naples, Florida. He was also a past trustee at Hardesty Village in Columbus, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Maggie) Kern; daughter, Kelly Erdy; sons, Keith and wife Gabriela Kern, and George Jr. and wife Mechelle; three grandsons, Dustin and Bre Kern, Dallas and Crystal Kern, and Tyler and Krystal Kern; great-grandson, Dustin Kern; and great-granddaughters, Penny and Morgan Kern. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Pearl (Downing) Kern; brother, Bob Kern; sister, Mary Katherine (Kate) Bracey; and sister, Pauline (Kern) Wertz. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Ohio, Texas, and California.
Visitation will be Monday, August 19, 2024, from 10:30 AM to 12:15 PM at Schoedinger Funeral Home, 4242 Hoover Rd., Grove City, OH 43123.
