

Helbert Brown, Jr., 70 also known as Bert a beloved family member and friend, passed away in Grove City on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 surrounded by family. He was born April 26, 1954 in Moberly, Missouri, to Helbert Sr. and Mary Evelyn Brown. Leaving behind a legacy of joy, laughter, and cherished memories. He lived life to the fullest, always embracing the moments that mattered most, especially those spent with his family and friends, who meant the world to him.
After Bert retired from Rexnord Corporation he began to work as a dedicated bus driver for Hilliard City Schools and retired again in 2024. Bert would always help out when needed and never called off work.
A lover of music and sports, Bert found great joy in listening to his favorite tunes and watching games, particularly football and basketball. He was an avid golfer and a dedicated Kansas City Chiefs fan, and he proudly supported the Mizzou Tigers as well as his Ohio State Buckeyes. His passion for sports extended beyond fandom; he served as a former basketball coach for both boys’ AAU teams and the boys and girls’ club. It was during this time that he earned the nickname "Biggie," a testament to his larger-than-life personality and impact on those around him.
A man of diverse interests, Bert loved horses and enjoyed wearing his signature cowboy hat. As a young boy, he loved fishing with his dad, eating his moms delicious home cooked meals, and spending time with family.
One of Bert’s greatest pleasures in life was traveling to the Caribbean, a place he cherished for its beauty and the memories he created there with family. His zest for life, kind heart, and love of adventure will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Bert was an amazing grandfather and dad he never missed a beat, from his grandsons basketball games, to picking up his granddaughter from school he was always there. He always showed tremendous love for his children and he will forever hold a special place in their hearts.
He is survived by his daughters, Krystal Brown, and Margaret Jenkins (Justin Jenkins); his grandchildren Justin Jenkins Jr., Morgan Jenkins: sisters Remona Freelon (Darrell Freelon), Tammey Brown, and a host of family members and friends.
Bert was preceded in death by his parents Helbert Sr. and Mary Evelyn Brown; wife Sylvia Brown; and sister Mary Margaret.
His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Bert’s family will receive friends 10 am-12 pm Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Schoedinger Grove City, 4242 Hoover Rd., Grove City where funeral service will be held 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Glen Rest Memorial Estate.
