James Kenneth Preston, age 74, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022 with his daughters by his side at Promedica of Dublin. He is survived by his daughters, Renea Preston Lewis and Jackie Preston (Ed) Reed, grandchildren, Matthew and Savannah Lewis, step grandchildren, Kendra Reed, Nathan Reed, Erika Reed, Gage Reed, and Corbyn Reed, former spouse, Gwendolyn (Marcum) Jeffs, half brother, Tom (Ann) Preston, nephews, Tony Preston and Tim (Lisa) Preston, several great nieces and nephews, his Aunt Daphne (Butcher) Daniels and numerous cousins, their children and grandchildren.
Born in Welch, WV, Jim was raised as a Christian by his mother, Mildred Butcher, in Paintsville, Kentucky. After high school, he enlisted in the Air Force and served during the Vietnam War. When his tour of duty was complete, he moved his mother to Columbus, Ohio and went to work for Ohio Bell as a telecommunications Lineman and finished his career with AT&T in the office after 30+ years of service. Jim was the adventurous and social type always on the go. He earned his pilot license flying small aircraft, raced stock cars and enjoyed NASCAR, boating, fishing, and traveling with his family. He was a generous and kind soul always helping others. Witty and clever, he amused everyone with his wonderful storytelling. As a humble artist, he could sing, draw, sculpt, and even played a little guitar. He had the mind of an engineer surprising you with his ingenuity tinkering, repairing and building things. He truly was an angel who walked earth bringing joy, love and hope to all. A Celebration of Life memorial will be held later. Arrangements by SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY.
