

Jean Hensel, age 91 of Columbus, formerly of Grove City and Orient, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Doctors Hospital. Jean was born in Tar Hollow to the late Gloven and Mae Routte. After moving to central Ohio, she had a long career at Schottenstein which she enjoyed. She loved shoes, tending her vegetable garden, and baking. She enjoyed doing food for auctions with her children in their 4-J food truck (best cinnamon twist around!). Jean also had an extensive collection of hoot owls second to none. Jean was a loving, caring person with a quick wit and was affectionately known as “Mom” to all of her children’s friends. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband John Henry Hensel; brothers Donald and Kenneth Routte; sisters Hermione Ramsey and Betty Miller; half-sisters Fern Bethel and Mary Elizabeth Smith; and half-brother Wallace Routte. Jean is survived by her children Joni and Gloven Hensel; step-daughter Debra Balling; 2 step-grandchildren; and 4 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and special friends. Jean’s family will receive friends 5-8 PM Tuesday, April 26 at Schoedinger Grove City 4242 Hoover Rd where her funeral service will be held 1 PM Wednesday. Interment to follow at Beckett Cemetery.
