Jeff was born on April 15, 1962, in Columbus, Ohio, to Earl C. Fail and Virginia L. (Perkins) Fail, both of whom preceded him in death.
Jeff's mantra, "Head Up, Face Forward, Purposeful Steps," along with the love and support of family and great friends, kept him going. He found joy in spending time with family and friends and had a passion for great food, music, art, board games, books, muscle and sports cars, dragons, and attending the Renaissance Fair. Jeff had a gift for bringing people together, whether through family gatherings, game nights, or simply lending a helping hand. If something needed fixed, Jeff was the one everyone called.
A 1980 graduate of Grove City High School, Jeff married the love of his life, Dawn Rumer, in 1982. He later earned an Associate Degree in Electronic Engineering from Columbus State Community College in 1996. Jeff retired from Gordon Flesch Company in 2025 after 28 years of dedicated service. Throughout his life, he also served as a sound engineer for a local band, volunteered with his children's Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, and generously shared his time and talents with those around him.
Jeff is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Dawn (Rumer) Fail; his son, Steven Fail and Ashley Graham; his daughter, Myranda and Andy Wotring; his treasured grandchildren, Emily, Finn, and Wednesday Wotring, and Jack Graham; his brother, Clifton Fail; his sister, Cindy and Rex Fail-Crossley; his mother-in-law, Dee Rumer; his sisters-in-law, Beth and Pat Martin, and Amy Tryon; his nieces and nephews, Chelle and John Harding, Makaila and Nate Curry, Vann Norman, Ryan and JP Waldrop, Loni and Sean Purcell, Charlotte and David Shelkey, and Nathan and Chya Martin; 12 great-nieces and great-nephews; 2 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and his special friends, Cameron and Cassie Grove, Scott and Meghan Lees, Libby Feather, Aaron Hope, Kellie McCune and Bobbie Brooks, Dave and Tammy Tingle, and Mark and Terry Edwards.
