John Harris Allen III

John Harris Allen, III, 69, of Punta Gorda, FL (formerly of Upper Arlington, OH and Grove City, OH) passed away at his residence on October 18, 2023. John was born on August 15, 1954 at Fort Sill, OK, to loving parents Alma “Sis” and John Harris Allen, Jr. John served on the student council and was junior class president at Grove City High School, graduating in 1972. He studied economics at Morehead State University and Ohio State University, where he later worked for over 20 years. John remained an Ohioan at heart and often pined for cool autumns and cold winters – his children sent him photos of leaf blowers and snow shovels. John was well versed in the fine art of “that’s why we call it fishing” and “Dad Jokes.” John is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry Warner Allen; his mother Alma Allen; children Hilary Allen, Mary (Zachary) Ludi and John H. Allen, IV; grandchildren Miriam Allen, John H. Allen, V, and Patrick Allen; siblings Staci (Robert) Owen of Alpharetta, GA; Michael (Vicki) Allen of Lithopolis, OH; and Craig (Beth) Allen of Utica, OH; many beloved nieces and nephews; his first wife Christine (Doug) Merz; lifelong friends Dennis, Mizer, Richard Hart and William Ditty and many others from the GCHS Class of 1972; many newfound Florida friends and neighbors at Blue Heron Pines in Punta Gorda; and his corgi (good boy) Finn. John was preceded in death by his father, John H. Allen, III. Family will receive friends 4-6 PM Friday, November 3 at Schoedinger Grove City 4242 Hoover Rd (Hoover Rd at Kingston Ave) where his funeral service will follow at 6 PM.
