Joyce was born on January 3, 1946 to Harry B. and Thelma B. Daugherty of Galion, Ohio.
Joyce was a loving stepmother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Joyce was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of Galion and was actively involved in the Eastern Star, Red Hat Society, TOPS Club, Dodge Recreation Center, and many other community organizations she was passionate about. She especially loved to read.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Thelma Daugherty; mother-in-law, Harriette (O’Brien) Baxter; husband, David A. Baxter; and stepson, David (Scott) Baxter.
She is survived by her sister, Linda J. Shannon of Galion, Ohio; stepdaughter, Danette Merritt of Sarasota, FL; daughter-in-law, Judy Baxter of New Plymouth, Ohio; granddaughters, Misty and Kristy Baxter-Ellis; great-granddaughter, Dakota Ellis-Baxter of Calabash, NC; and cousins Daniel Deter of Manassas, Virginia; Charles Deter of Ashland, Ohio; Mrs. Jody Varga of Crestline, Ohio; She is also survived by extended family and close friends, including Sue (Brian) Shaffer, her childhood friend of 70 years, as well as Joanne, Debbie, and many more.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Schoedinger Norris Grove City, 4242 Hoover Road, Grove City, OH 43123.
A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, August 29, 2026, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Schoedinger Norris Grove City, with interment to follow at Sunset Cemetery, 6959 West Broad Street, Galloway, OH 43119.
She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, wit, kindness, strength, and devotion to her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Columbus Public Library, Hilltop Branch, 511 S. Hague Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43204.
