

Marilyn Jean (O’Brien) Martin, age 88, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026. She was born July 11, 1938 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Hugh and Fauntell (Miller) O’Brien. She was a longtime resident of Grove City, Ohio and a devoted member of Saint John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Marilyn was a graduate of West High School, Class of 1956. She later retired from the State of Ohio, where she served as a Supervisor for the Medicare Division.
She found genuine joy in the simple, lasting comforts of home, faith, and family. An avid reader who loved a good book, she also enjoyed driving around town. Her sense of direction was well established long before GPS. Above all, Marilyn dearly loved her family and was happiest when surrounded by them.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Y. Martin; step-father, Earnest Patton; brothers, Hugh (Mary Kay) O’Brien, Charles (Barbara) O’Brien, and Thomas (Janet) O’Brien; and by her step-brother, Henry (Gloria) Patton.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Mychael P. O’Brien of Dayton, Ohio, James M. (Kathy) O’Brien of Greenfield, Ohio, Barbara N. (Bebop) O’Brien of Hilliard, Ohio, Thomas P. (Linda) O’Brien, Jr. of Grove City, Ohio, Karen S. (Craig) Milligan of Grove City, Ohio, Charles A. (Chuckie) O’Brien of Columbus, Ohio, and Lisa A. Neil of Columbus, Ohio; step-niece, Lynn Patton Burgett; step-nephews, Lon, Roger, Robert, and Byron Patton; special friends, Wanda and Bill Burkey; and a special cousin, Sue Scarlet; as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews and distant cousins. Marilyn was especially close to Tracy (James) Holbrook, Erin (Bryan) Althaus, Amber (Byran) Barber, David (Kendra) McGinnis, Thomas (Brittany) O’Brien, III, Scottie O’Brien, Carl Jobe, and great-great-nieces, Presley O’Brien and Emma McGinnis.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at Glen Rest Memorial Estate, 8029 E Main St, Reynoldsburg, OH 43068.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 3220 Columbus St., Grove City, OH 43123.
