Mary Alice Baker

Mary Alice (née Morris) Baker, 91, of Orient, Ohio, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2023. She was born November 26, 1931 in Kitts Hill, Lawrence County, Ohio to the late Frank Morris and Freda (née Clay) Abrams. Mary was happily married 65 years to Hobart Lee Baker who passed in 2022. Mary moved from Kitts Hill to Columbus in the early booming car days of the 50’s, where she was employed with General Motors and met Hobart.

Mary was a loving mother who enjoyed taking care of her family. She enjoyed growing, harvesting and canning her own fruits and vegetables. She tirelessly cared for Hobart during his long illness for four years. She was a woman with a big heart and a determined spirit.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Hobart, her sister Marcella Butler, brothers Raymond, Frank, Richard and William Morris, and brother Kenneth Turner. Mary is survived by son Hobart ”Hobie” (Esther) of Powell, Ohio; daughters Robin (Robert) McClaren of Orient, Ohio and Gail Baker of Stockholm, Sweden; grandchildren Elisabeth, Hannah, Jake, and Stephanie; numerous nieces and nephews; caring neighbors; and many other relatives and friends.

Mary’s final resting place will be Beckett Cemetery in Scioto Township and her Graveside Service will be held there 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 31, 2023.
