

Maureen P. “Nanny” Steeves, age 88, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at The Ashford of Grove City, OH. She was born to the late Albert and Edith (Bath) Nailor in Dover, Kent England on July 12, 1934. When she was 5 years old, she had to relocate to Wales due to WWII. She returned to England and was confirmed at Canterbury Cathedral. One of her most profound moments was when she was tapped on her head by Sir Winston Churchill during the war. She loved to ballroom dance with her friends as a teen. Maureen met and fell in love with her husband of 34 years, John Edward “Jack” Steeves who was serving in the Air Force. When they returned to the United States after the war, they married and then moved to Youngstown, OH for Jack’s work and family. She also lived in San Diego as well as Grove City, OH. Along with raising and taking care of her family, Maureen worked at the Ursuline Mother House. Maureen was a member of the Mother of Twins Club and the British Wives Club. During her life, Maureen was an excellent baker with her award winning pies for her family to enjoy as well as her cooking. Along with her parents, siblings and her husband, she is preceded in death by her son, Don Steeves. Maureen is survived by her children, John R. (Dorinda) Steeves, Cheryl (Marc) Rosenfield, Carol (Kenny) York, Tammy (Mike) Josephson, Ron (Bonnie) Steeves, Michael Steeves, daughter-in-law, Lori Steeves, 10 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and her companion of over 30 years, Allen Goldsmith and her beloved cat, Kayla. A memorial service will be held at Calvary Cemetery on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at 1 pm at the cemetery chapel.
