Melvin E. Baker, age 90, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024 at Mt. Carmel Grove City with his family by his side. Melvin is preceded in death by his son, Jerry Baker, sister, Betty Jean Baker, daughter-in-law, Jody Baker, and his longtime companion, Carol Chambers. He is survived by his sons, Mel Baker (Pam Churches), Brett Baker, grandchildren, Daniel (Pamela) Baker, Michael (Keeley) Zervis, Baylie Baker, great grandchildren, Harrison Baker, Kaylyn Zervis, Levi Wogan, Emerson Zervis and his furry friend, Brutus. Melvin was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. After high school, Melvin joined the Army and served his Country for 2 years. When he returned he sold real estate for Granville Shoaf for a few years before his 38-year career with the 3M Company in Grove City as a Plant Manager. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, The Ohio State Buckeyes, traveling with Carol and spending the winters in Florida, collecting coins, playing golf, and watching the Cadillac Kids softball team. He was a lifetime member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Grove City. He was also a member of the Grand Lodge and Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio. Melvin was a racehorse owner for over 20 years, and enjoyed watching horse races at Beulah Park and recently at Scioto Downs. A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY 4242 Hoover Rd. (Hoover Rd at Kingston Ave.) Interment will be at Grove City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 1379 Dublin Rd. Columbus, OH 43215
