Nelson L. “Skip” Mills, age 76 who was scheduled to take an Honor Flight to visit his country’s war memorials, took the ultimate Honor Flight Tuesday, September 5, 2023. Skip was born in Mount Vernon, OH to the late Denver an Evelyn (née Smith) Mills. He was a 1965 graduate of Pleasant View High School. After graduation, Skip attended the Ohio State Barber College. He proudly served his country as a U.S. Airman during the Vietnam War. Once he returned home from the service, Skip started his career as a truck driver (CB handle ‘Scooter Tramp”). He retired from Yellow Freight after 30 years of dedicated service. Skip was a member of the Teamsters Local #413 for 32 years. He owned and operated the Pork and Pickle Bar and Grill in Mechanicsburg, OH from 1998-2004.Skip drove a school bus for Fairbanks Local School District for 11 years. He was a member of VFW Post #5451, American Legion Post #120, NAUS Club/Trea Enlisted Association Chapter 124, and Loser Racing. He was a dedicated Harley-Davidson rider, a die-hard Michigan fan, and an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Skip was a big Teddy Bear; he looked hard but was soft on the inside. He had a heart of absolute gold and would do anything for anyone. He loved his country and most of all his family. In addition to his parents, Skip is preceded in death by his brother Ron Mills; sister Judy Griffith; brothers-in-law Mike Griffith and Joe DeVictor; parents-in-law Ernie and Phyllis DeVictor; and his faithful companions Harley Mae and Sammy. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Roxanne L. “Rock” Mills; daughter Melissa (husband Shawn Dixon) Dehl; granddaughter Amelia Dehl; brother Marvin (Vicki) Mills; sisters-in-law Linda Mills, Rhonda DeVictor, and Tricia DeVictor; and many nieces and nephews. Skip’s family will receive friends 4-7 PM Friday, September 15 at Schoedinger Grove City 4242 Hoover Rd Grove City (Hoover Rd at Kingston Ave) where his funeral service will be held at 10 AM Saturday.
