April 20, 1941 - January 9, 2025
Our father Tom was a good man, a warrior and ornery as hell. This is how he lived, and this is how he passed.
Tom was born on the West Side of Columbus OH to Levi and Pauline Moore and had three siblings. He graduated from Central High School. After a brief time living in Grove City, he decided to raise his family and live his life on the West Side, "The Hilltop".
Dad was a hard worker, often juggling two jobs at the same time. His first full-time job was at Westinghouse where he eventually became a Union Steward. He worked there for almost 20 years and made many life-long friends. Eventually he joined his younger brother, Roger, in the trucking industry. He was happy being a Teamster and retired from ABF with a flawless driving record.
He had many pleasures in his life, but his first love and his undying commitment was to his four daughters and to his Dobermans. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he loved doing these things with his daughters, sons-in-law, and grandkids. He loved being outside more than anywhere else, and in his final years, you could almost always find Dad on his front porch enjoying the weather and people watching. He was a huge fan of the Cincinnati Reds and OSU Buckeyes. Not to be forgotten was his love of gardening and food. Tom always had a home garden where he grew loads of vegetables and was happy to share them with anyone who visited. And if he wasn't sharing his homegrown veggies, he was offering you any of the food he had around. If you didn't want him to drive you nuts, you "broke bread" with him. We think back to the many times Dad made his homemade vegetable soup, none can compare if you ask any of us. He might be found with up to (6) kettles going so he had enough to send home or freeze for his girls or other family that might stop by. We'll miss you dad, and your soup!
His daughters, grandkids, and "dobies" were his world, especially in his later years. Everyone pitched in to help take care of our Dad because he took care of us for so long. Grandson (and fishing buddy), Jake, even moved in to care for him during an especially hard time. When I say everyone, I mean it. Not a surprise to anyone, but Tom had many families in his 83 years. He loved them all, and they visited often when he needed it most. Special mention to extended family members for their loving companionship: Tim Castle, Ralph, Joan and Sunshine Wolfe, Don Penrod, Jewell Urfer and Susie Benjamin. We would be remiss to leave out the other important women in Dad's life, the mothers of his daughters: Sylvia Rose (deceased), Shyrl Jean (deceased), and Joan Ellen (living).
Tom was preceded in death by parents Levi and Pauline (Ray) Moore; loving wife/soulmate Betty Corrinna (Murphy) Moore; siblings Bernard (Leah) Castle, Roger L. Moore (Kathy "Sis"), Marjorie (Paul) Shenk and stepson Michael Slaughter. He is survived by daughters Phyllis (Gary) Mudrak, Connie "Cricket" (Nick) Haussman, Tonya Moore (Brady Simmons), and Wishona Moore (Don Penrod): grandchildren Tony (Amanda) Whittaker, Don (Mary) Whittaker, Haley Deem (Pat Brown), Hunter Simmons, Jake Eidson, Russ Haussman, Holden Simmons and (11) great grands, (1) great great grandson and many nieces and nephews. Thank you to all of his family, friends, and neighbors who were able to join us to celebrate our dad's life.
A visitation for Thomas will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Schoedinger Norris Grove City, 4242 Hoover Road, Grove City, OH 43123. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 10:00 AM, 4242 Hoover Road, Grove City, OH 43123 with burial to follow at Sunset Cemetery, 6959 West Broad Street, Galloway, Ohio 43119.
