

William A. “Bill” Harris, 72 of Grove City. William was born December 8, 1953 in Columbus, Ohio. He died on, March 7, 2026 at his home. He is survived by his loving wife/high school sweetheart, Teresa (Veeley) Harris, son, Steven (Kathryn), grandchildren, Caroline, Jack, Elizabeth and Abigail Harris all of Pomfret, Connecticut, son, Jeffrey (Adam Somogye) Harris of Grove City, brother, Jack (Salvador Briones), sister, Cris (Michael) Peebles, special granddaughter, Paige Alford. William graduated from St. Leo Grade School and Bishop Ready High School. After High School, William spent 4 years in the United States Air Force. William then joined the Columbus Division of Police. He was a Police Officer for 33 years, 3 months, 3 weeks and 3 days. He was named Columbus Police Officer of the year, in 3 different years by 3 different organizations. For 6 months he was the last Columbus Police Officer to carry a revolver as his service weapon. He was named twice as the Member of the Year by The Emerald Society of Columbus, Ohio. He was a Veteran Life Member of Charity Newsies and The Knights of Columbus, Bill was named Knight of the Year by the Central Ohio Chapter of the Knights of Columbus, was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, The Shamrock Club and A Sherlock Holmes Scion, The Tankerville Club of Cincinnati. William is the Founding Member of “The Consulting Detectives of Central Ohio”, a Sherlock Holmes Scion which will launch on January 6, 2027. William was an avid Cleveland Browns football fan, being a Browns fan kept him from being too cocky, he was a Cincinnati Reds fan and he was a Notre Dame Football fan. William was also a member of the International Laurel and Hardy Society. William should have been born 800 years earlier. He considered himself a Knight, who never ceased to believe in the Code of Chivalry. He lived his life by the code “My word is my bond.” He loved being a world traveler, he had been everywhere from all 50 states, 25 foreign countries, riding a camel in the Sahara Desert and walking in the Arctic Circle. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026 from 4pm til 7:30 when there will be a small eulogy and prayer until 8 pm at Schoedinger Grove City 4242 Hoover Rd. Grove City, OH. A private interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Get Behind the Badge 246 Lincoln Circle H, Columbus, OH 43230.
