Mary Ellen Trahan was special. She had a special knack for brightening any room she entered, lifting the spirits of everyone she met, and leaving each encounter having made others feel that they were the special ones. I was privileged to share 20+ years as her professional Clear Creek ISD colleague and personal friend. Mary Ellen loved the Lord, life in general, and people in particular -especially her students. From spreading joy in her youth through song of the Melody Maids, and sharing loving camaraderie over a long adulthood, Mary Ellen Trahan lived a life of remarkable generosity and service.  I see her in the lines of John Hall Wheelock's poem "In Love and Song:"
     "Life burns us up like fire,  /  And song goes up in flame;
       The body returns in ashes / To the ashes whence it came.
       Out of things it rises, / And laughs and loves and sings;
       Slowly it subsides / Into the char of things.
        Yet a voice soars above it - / Love is great and strong.
        The best of us forever / Escapes in love and song."
