On Monday, July 1, 2024, Alfredo Pietro Barbirolo, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away suddenly at the age of 83.
Alfredo was born on September 26, 1940 in Altivole, Italy to Guiseppe and Maria (Parisotto) Barbirolo (both deceased). The youngest of eight siblings, Alfredo was always the baby of the family to his sisters Bruna (Adelino) Cazzolato, both deceased, Antonietta (Genio, deceased) Casolato, Giuliana (Giuseppe) Rodato and brothers Bruno (Adele) Barbirolo, both deceased, Luigi Barbirolo, deceased, Antonio, deceased, (Romana) Barbirolo and Terry (Ida) Barbirolo, both deceased. He spent his early years in Italy, working hard on the family farm and serving proudly in the countries' specialist mountain infantry, the Alpini.
At the young age of 27, Alfredo decided to follow his heart and seek new opportunities in Canada. Despite the challenges of being in a new country, Alfredo settled in Guelph, Ontario and found work in the construction industry. It was here that he also married the love of his life, Anna Barbirolo (nee Carniello), with whom he would have celebrated 50 years of marriage this October.
Alfredo easily made many friends, some of which were also recent immigrants from Italy. Between games of pool, and making wine or sausage, he started to build a life for himself and Anna in Canada. This included many days of cheering on Juventus FC, yelling at Scuderia Ferrari during F1 races or toasting with another glass of homemade wine.
Despite all of his passions, nothing made Alfredo happier than time with his family. He was a loving father of 3 beautiful daughters, Christine (Tim) Penny, Janice (Mike) Brazeau and Nancy (Joe) Hadden, step-father to Gianfranco Carniello and special Nonno to grandchildren Noah, Zoe, Cooper, Lincoln, Callum, Fionn, Freyja and soon to arrive baby girl Hadden. Alfredo was also a caring brother-in-law to Angelo (Guiseppina) Carniello, Marcello, deceased (Onorina) Carniello, Luigino, deceased, (Graziella) Carniello and a devoted Zio to many nieces and nephews and many great nieces and great- nephews in Canada and Italy.
Alfredo will always be known for opening up his heart and home to make everyone feel welcome.
