Our heartfelt condolences to Ed's family. He was a former work colleague at Swiss Bank for many years and a good friend. Ed will be dearly missed.

We were better for knowing Ed and enjoying his music, kindness and enthusiasm.  We pray for the comfort and strength for all of his family at this time of grief.

Friendships are generally based on having something in common. Having one thing in common usually is enough, but with Ed we really loved many of the same things.

We both shared a love of hockey, guitar, coding, travel, and a "glass half full" perspective on life in general.

We played hockey for many years. He was a Left Shot and I'm a Right Shot making passing easy. We always knew where the other was going and scored lots of "tick-tack-toe" goals. I remember one Tuesday night we were invited to an outdoor pick-up game, the weather and ice was perfect, and we had nothing do but play hockey for an hour. Ed had this smile on his face like "this is the most fun thing ever!"

We both played guitar every day if possible. My favorite guitar memory with Ed was when we were up at Mike Gregory's cottage with most of our hockey team, and Ed, Paul, and I brought our guitars. We played probably 100 songs with everyone singing along badly over the weekend. No worries, just fun! Ed just loved to play Guitar.

Ed and I both worked in IT. It wasn't just a job for us. We both just love coding and working with computers! We could talk for hours about what Web Site we were coding or new technology we were playing with. Anyone else would be bored senseless! Ed always felt lucky to have a job doing something he loved.

Ed and I also shared a love of travel. We both loved the excitement of visiting new places and meeting new people around the world. We both favored going on trips solo. We found it more fun to meet new people. We were always exchanging tips and saying "you gotta go there!" A few places I remember Ed going to are Egypt, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, all through Europe, and many more. Ed took great delight in travelling adventures. 

Ed and I also both shared a "glass half full" attitude to life. We both got to do what we loved to do and were very grateful! Ed always had a smile on his face because he thought he was the luckiest guy alive.

Finally, we also shared a love of family. We both had Immigrant parents that had come from Europe and worked hard to give us a great life in Canada. We both married amazing woman and had 2 kids each. Ed joked that my daughter Gillian's hug inspired Kathryn to want kids. It has been wonderful to see Ed enjoy fatherhood and bring his many talents to raising two amazing kids. I'm look forward to seeing Shane and Anika make the great impact on the world that Ed has.

You touched my life in so many ways. I'll think of you when the Leafs score a goal, I see a cool guitar video on YouTube, or an Exotic Travel Location we had both visited.

I'll really miss you.

Our most heartfelt condolences to Shane, Katherine and the entire family. We would have loved to get ED on the ice, or behind the bench for one last Stanley Stick game. We are lucky to have spent time with Ed. He will be forever missed.

Our thoughts are with you and your family. Although I hadn't seen Ed for a few of years, he and I were room mates during our hockey trip to Croatia. He was truly a wonderful man and I will always remember him for his character, honesty and kindness.

Although I lost contact with Ed over the years, I have very fond memories of a very nice, generous and gragarious man with a great sense of humor. Such a difficult loss. My condolences to his entire family and all of his friends.

In memory of my former working colleague I would like to make a donation to Ed Gal's requested charity, the Prostate Cancer Society. May this donation help in the research of cancer prevention. Ed, may you rest in peace.

Although I did not have the pleasure of knowing Edward I understand the struggle that he and his family have gone through.  

Kathryn - my condolences to you and your kids at this time. You've not left my heart since I first heard of Ed's illness. I will be thinking of you as continue through this journey and the weeks and months to come.

What a cheerful, open-hearted and compassionate man Ed was, whose love of music was infectious! He seemed to have an indomitable positive spirit in the time that I knew him, and did what he could to help others less fortunate. I know he loved his family more than anything. I am so sorry to learn of your great loss. His legacy lives on in each of you. May wonderful memories keep him close in your hearts and bring you comfort. Thinking of all of you with prayers.
