

Kersting, Elke Johanna Emma (nee Zelta) Passed away suddenly, but peacefully in her home, February 17, 2010, in her 71st year. Elke was born in Hamburg, Germany September 2, 1939. She is predeceased by her loving husband Erik Kersting (1999), beloved mother of Sven Kersting of Cambridge, ON and Birte Kersting-Wilson of Honolulu, Hawaii, mother-in-law to Aileen, and loving grandmother of Dakota, Erik, Kaitlyn and Brandon. Elke will be greatly missed by her family and relatives, as well as friends, clients and co-volunteers at the Red Cross "Meals-on-Wheels" program. Still an adventuress, she was scheduled to visit the Agawa Canyon via the snow train on February 19th. Among her many travels she visited the Terra Cotta Soldiers and walked the Great Wall in China, hiked to the Inca ruins at Macchu Picchu, Peru, swam with the seals in the Galapagos Islands; she visited the valley of the Kings while touring Egypt's Nile River Basin and sailed the northern Aegean sea. Elke met many people throughout her life and left an impression on all. When home Elke was her grandchildren's greatest sports fan as well as an active philanthropist and volunteer. Charity causes included the Red Cross Society and Sleeping Children Around the World. Elke will be missed by all who were closest to her. Memorial visitation to be held at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, "Dublin Chapel", 252 Dublin Street. North, Guelph on Wednesday February 24, 2010 from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. followed by a memorial service to be held in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. Cremation has taken place. Interment Marymount Mousoleum, Guelph at a later date.
