

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Herminia (Eming) Butihen into the arms of the Lord on February 8th, 2023 at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. She was a devoted and loving wife to Pedrito (Ped) and a proud mother to Ronnie (2004) and Florence (Nenet). She will be missed by her toto nonoy, Charlie B.
Herminia was preceded in death by her parents, Ananias Landazabal Legarde (1999, 87 years) and most recently Celerina Lavilla Legarde (2022, 107 years), She was the eldest of her siblings and was predeceased by Rodrigo (passed at 2 years), Endalecio (2016), and Estilito (1997). Her bloodline also includes the names of Lenesa, Loquiano, Layas, Ledema, Loredo, and Légayada.
Born on a farm in Burirao Philippines on November 11, 1941, Herminia attended both Tubungan Elementary School and Don Eugenio Ladrido Memorial Elementary School. She lived with her Aunt Dolores Lavilla Losbañes and cousins Lourdes and Ernesto. She then went on to attend Lambunao Vocational School for high school and graduated from the University of San Agustin with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Her best asset was her sexy long legs and her fashionista trade mark. She enjoyed telling stories and having fun with her relatives and friends. She loved to wear hats.
Herminia, also known as Minyang or Inday Eming, was a beloved cousin, aunt, lola, friend/kumare, tita and ninang to many around the world, including the Philippines (Iloilo, Lambunao, and Bacolod), Canada, the USA, and Australia. She had a special bond with her nephew and niece, Ali and Aline. She also loved her cousin, her Manang Sony dearly, was close to Emelyn Lizada and Belen Alojepan. And was sister-in-law to Rudy and Eva Butihen.
Her strong Catholic faith was an integral part of her life, and she had a deep belief in the Lord. She was also a member of the Katilingban Sang Ilonggo in Windsor, Ontario, loved to cook and enjoyed playing mahjong and scrabble. She was a fan of the musical The Sound of Music, the song “Sound of Silence" from The Graduate and liked going to the Falls. Many will miss their long into the night conversations with her, her laughter, and advice. She was strong-willed and loved life.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Drs. Christine Soong, Sarah Kawaguchi, Michael Youseff, and Philippe Bedard, as well as the kind nurses who took care of her during her short stay at Mount Sinai Hospital and Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. They also appreciate the dedicated care of her general
practitioner, Dr. Snider, and Josie Lacuesta, for their commitment to her health and well-being.
Finally, Pedrito and Florence would like to acknowledge the overwhelming love, support, and prayers received from family members, ninongs/ninangs, friends, and those in the advertising and media community during their great loss.

Visitation to take place on Friday February 17th, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-9:00 pm and on Saturday, February 18, 2023 from 9:00 - 10:00 am A Funeral Mass will take place at the Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate Church on Saturday February 18th, 2023 at 10:30 am. Reception details after the Funeral Mass to follow.
