Jan died peacefully at Guelph General Hospital on November 5th, 2022 after a long and courageous battle with Sjogren's Syndrome. Beloved wife of Robert for 59 years. Treasured mother of Michael (Katherine) of Yorkton, SK, and Merryn (Randy) of Guelph. Much loved Nana of Riley and Aidan. Cherished sister of Kaye (Victoria, Australia). Predeceased by father (Frank Faram), mother (Enid), brother Garry and sisters Sandra, Kerry, and Robyn. Special friend of Eileen Bousfield Dawn Sutton (deceased) and Sheila Hassert.
Jan was born and raised in rural Victoria, Australia, and came to Guelph in 1967. She early showed a talent for singing and art and used these gifts throughout her life as a valued school teacher and member of numerous groups and choirs in Australia and Canada. She married Robert in 1963 when he was a graduate student at the University of Melbourne. She learned to type in school and used this skill for many years in the preparation of theses, papers, and books for Robert, friends and students, and as a clerk at Harcourt Memorial United Church. Jan trained as a nurse in Australia and had a special gift for nurturing, as daughter, sister, granddaughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, teacher, friend, neighbour, nurse, and colleague, or simply as the person there when help was needed. She enjoyed athletics and as a teenager was an award-winning leader of young people. Jan loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed hiking, birding, and canoeing.
She applied her skills with painting and photography to produce images of nature that she freely shared with family and friends. She travelled widely in Australia, USA, and Canada, including a memorable trip as a young mother pregnant with Merryn and camping from California to Ontario with Robert and Michael. The family wishes to thank family physicians Dr. Caspers and Dr. Gerson, and staff at numerous hospitals including Hamilton Health Sciences, the Firestone Clinic at St. Joseph's Healthcare, and the Guelph General Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, it was Jan's wish that donations be made to Sjogren's Society of Canada, or a charity of your choice. Donations can be made by cash or cheque at the funeral home or online following the link below.
