Devoted wife to the late John Prigione (1987) and cherished mother to John (Mae), Diane (Rick Barber), Kathy Cutler, Gerry, Nancy (Ralph Lyle), Judi (late Craig Smillie) all of Guelph, and Patty (Bruce Mikkila) of Hanmer, Ontario. Much loved grandmother to 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Special cousin to Patricia Coulman and Ellen Lasby. Fondly remembered by sisters-in-law Linda Prigione and Mary Olsberg, and by many nieces and nephews.
A lifelong Guelphite, Mary Lou was the only child of Jack and Dorothy Scott (Schenk) and was raised by her doting mother with the assistance of her loving maternal grandparents William (Fred) and Ellen Hardy. Shortly after graduating from GVCI she met John Prigione during a social event at Ryan’s Dance Hall. They married in 1946 and became partners in life and business. They were devoted to each other and shared a common love of family, friends, and hockey. Be it at the family home on Westmount Road or at the cottage on Lake Huron, Mary Lou became known as the ‘hostess with the mostess.” With her husband by her side, she traveled the world and enjoyed an active social life. After John’s sad passing she immersed herself in her family. In her later years, Mary Lou was known for her love of all things Italian, penchant for frequenting casinos and enjoyment of Murdoch Mysteries. Though her family are deeply saddened by her passing, they take great comfort in knowing that John and Mary Lou have been reunited in heaven. Special thanks to the staff at the Guelph General Hospital and especially Riverside Glen for their compassionate care.
