

SIMPSON, Mary (May) Helena – at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Guelph, on Wednesday September 18, 2013. May (Walsh) Simpson, age 91 years, beloved wife of the late Joseph S. Simpson (1997). Dear mother of the late Paul (2012); Margaret Lock of Vancouver; Monica Glazier and her husband Jack of Guelph; Dorothy Kloepfer and her husband Jerry of Kitchener and Colin and his wife Cynthia of Guelph. Loved grandmother of 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of the late Thomas Walsh and the late Margaret McGeough. In addition to her love of learning May led a full and exemplary life of service to her faith, family and community. After immigrating from Scotland with her husband and five children May worked as a nurse at both St Joseph Hospital and the Homewood Health Care Centre. During that time she studied part time at the University of Guelph completing her undergraduate degree in English Literature. She then attended Hamilton Teachers' College and earned an Ontario Teaching Certificate. May fulfilled her life long dream and became a classroom and special education teacher with the Wellington Catholic District School Board. She continued her studies while teaching, completing masters degrees in both Education and English Literature. Upon retirement May earned her third masters degree in Religious Studies while volunteering her free time to serving the Holy Rosary Parish community as a parish council representative, administering to the sick and leading groups in adult faith formation. The Simpson family extends its sincerest gratitude to the staff of St Joseph Health Care Centre and Dr Bloom for the patient, compassionate care they provided May over these last three years. We also thank Father Vernon Boyd and the staff of Holy Rosary Parish and Father Dennis Noon of Church of Our Lady Immaculate for their ongoing spiritual support and the many family and friends who have kept May in their thoughts and prayers. Resting at the GILBERT MacINTYRE AND SON FUNERAL HOME, DUBLIN CHAPEL, 252 Dublin Street North, Guelph. (Sunday 2-4 & 7-9pm). Funeral on Monday morning, September 23rd, to Holy Rosary Church for Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment Marymount Cemetery.
