Mervyn Allen Smith

Smith, Mervyn Allen (CPA, CA) of Guelph passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Health Centre at the age of 78, surrounded by his family. Loving husband of Marg Parker and father of Kimberley Turner (Gregory), Michael Smith (Lizz) and Marg’s daughters Gillian Parker and Meaghan Mitchell (Robert). Beloved grandfather of Nikole, Mervyn-Dallas, Shelby, Wyatt, Liam, Nora, Parker, Sullivan, Claire and Molly and great-grandfather of Callie-Ann. Much loved by his dogs Raider and Reggie (deceased). Mervyn was predeceased by his father Gilbert Smith and his mother Olga Dawson-Smith.

Merv was well respected in the world of accounting. No file was too big or insurmountable and none too small. Every client of Merv’s felt important and well taken care of.

In Merv’s quiet way, his unmatched work ethic and love of numbers shone bright. Somehow in between countless hours of accounting and piles of paperwork, he was able to make time for his long list of interests and hobbies. These include spending time with his family, travelling, good wine, bowling (he bowled a perfect game), football (Go Raiders!), pool, darts, investing, music, exercise, cars, nature and swimming – to name a few.

Merv was a father to some, but a father figure to many. He will forever be cherished by the many lives that he touched.

Resting at Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home- Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph, ON. Cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 11:00am to 12:00pm. A Celebration of Life will begin at 12:00pm in the Hart Chapel. Reception to follow.
