It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear father, brother, grand father and great grand father Reno "Chip" Sanvido in his 90th year on December 15, 2022 at the Grand River Hospital Freeport, Kitchener.
Predeceased by his dear wife and love of his life Carol (Sept 21, 2019) for over 63 years. Loving father of Debbie Marshall (Mike, deceased June 5, 2017), Diane Sanvido deceased Dec 6, 2022 (Mario), Gerry (Michelle), Robert (Joyce), and Mike (Shannon). Dear Papa of Christina (John), Danny (Riann), Carolyn (Philippe), Sarah (Jeff), Trevor (Chantelle), Tara (Peter), Tanya, Taylor, Ben, Adam and many, many great grand children. Cherished brother of late Fred Sanvido, (Marg), the late Bruno Sanvido (Joyce), Ida Longo (late Frank) and Ines Bolzon (late Angelo). Dear Brother-in-law of Ron Demers (late Joan) and the late Richard Laidlaw (late Irene) . Uncle of many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Fiorello and Irene.
Chip was born and raised in the ward section of Guelph to Italian immigrants. He was a hard working man who started by driving a grocery delivery truck for Peloso’s Grocery Store at the age of 9 (not a typo). He found his true vocation in the building materials industry as a salesman and manager, finally retiring at age 85 (not a typo) to look after Carol. Dad also spent a number of years as a referee first with the Guelph Referee’s Association then the OHA and a few NHL games as a linesman. When Dad would referee the Marlies games at Maple Leaf Gardens with fellow referees Jack Fischer and Lou Maschio, the announcer would belt out over the PA “and officiating tonight we have Lou’s Fish and Chips!”. He loved his family with his whole heart and was devastated at the loss our Mom in 2019 and daughter Diane just 9 days before.
We will miss your strength, character and companionship. Give Mom and Di a hug for us all. Special thanks to all the nurses and staff at the Grand River Freeport Hospital 2nd Floor UT west and 3rd Floor PT West for your compassionate care during Dad’s last days and to Dr. Rob Lostracco for accommodating all those “drop in “ visits.
Resting at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St, Guelph. Cremation has taken place. The family invites friends and relatives to join them for a visitation on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm and 7:00pm – 9:00pm.
